Not one, but three exhibitions are currently celebrating female artists in Oxfordshire with an incredible range of art, genres and locations to choose from.

  1. 1) To mark the seven year celebrations of the wonderful social enterprise Waste2Taste, local photographer Philippa James is exhibiting her 100 Women of Oxford in the cafe space, as seen at Tap Social and The North Wall, READ ABOUT IT HERE, where it will be on display for the year at the new premises in Temple Cowley READ ABOUT IT HERE

Based on the fascinating diversity of women in the city, Philippa began visiting the women she had met and photographing them in their own homes. 100 Women of Oxford is the stunning accumulation of these works which celebrate Oxford’s communities.

‘We are so happy to have the opportunity to host this gorgeous exhibition’

Waste2Taste’s Sandra Ruge says: “We are so happy to have the opportunity to host this gorgeous exhibition which we’ve loved since it first opened in 2020. Marie (Lehri with whom she runs Waste2Taste) and I are a small part of it, having had our pictures taken back in 2019, telling our story to Philippa to help her capture the essence of who we are.

“Philippa did that with every woman who’s been part of the project. This created such a strong emotional bond with the women she’s photographed. We are beyond excited to have them all in our café,” Sandra adds.

2) Just down the road at the Irving Gallery on Cowley Road, 75 remarkable women and non-binary visual artists from all over the world showcase a huge variety of works in A Room Of One’s Own , from abstract to representational, still life to landscape, painting, drawing, textile, and sculpture.

The exhibited artworks were selected from over 400 submitted works, alongside an audio file in which the participating artists speak briefly about their selected artwork and their practice. These recordings can be listened to in the gallery in front of the artworks themselves. A Room Of One’s Own runs until Friday April 5.
