  1. Back Lane, Woodstock – An instant success as soon as it opened its doors appeasing both the locals in the bar and diners in the extensive dining room at the back. 2) Double Red Duke, Clanfield – achingly beautiful both inside and out, this Jacobean inn, formerly The Plough, has had life breathed back into it thanks to Sam and Georgie Pearman. Oak panelled dining areas, chefs table stools or a huge conservatory for people watching, come summer it’s like being in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. 3) The Duke, Woodstock – Sister pub to the Back Lane which opened first, and the same team of Chris Brewster and Mish, this has more of an historic country pub with rooms vibe, Great for families with a huge beer garden, its been beautifully refurbed with GM Rich Gibbs firmly at the helm. 4) Five Little Pigs, Wallingford – new young team, new ideas, new vibe, this gorgeous little restaurant/cafe/bar is just what Wallingford needed. 6) Kings Arms Woodstock – This Fullers pub was given the full monty earlier this year, with no expense spared. 7) Lamb, Shipton Under Wychwood – The boys at The Bell in Langford have struck out again by opening their second premises, taking on this almost derelict village pub which is once again bursting at the seams thanks to the magic they sprinkle everywhere they go. 8) The Medley, Binsey – this charming home-built bar snuck in quietly during lockdown and transformed the way we eat and drink around Port Meadow for ever. Just up from The Perch this simple bar and food pop up venue has been immensely popular with anyone preferring the outdoors, from river dwellers and walkers as well a young, funky clientele. 10) Tap Social White House, Abingdon Road, Oxford – Covid didn’t help with Tap Social’s plans being delayed again and again, but it was worth the wait. 11) The Alice at The Randolph, Oxford – much awaited and lauded, Oxford’s globally famous, classy hotel restaurant has been entirely renovated in terms of food and decor. Whether you sit at the elegant bar, dine in splendour or book one of the fantastic private dining rooms, diners are once again flocking. 12) Wilding, Little Clarendon Street – what was Cafe Rouge is almost unrecognisable now thanks to Kent Barker’s extensive renovation project and dream. The first Wilding is in Somerset but they are now sprouting up everywhere. Wine shop, restaurant, bar and cafe it’s where Yotam Ottolenghi dined when he came to Oxford Playhouse recently.
