Drum roll….. for one weekend only, starting tomorrow, you can tune in to Creation’s latest crazy caper The Merry Wives of WhatsApp, their latest live virtual theatre performances.

If an unqualified success, and with tickets selling fast there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be another big hit with their ever growing global audience, Creation Theatre Company will then bring back this farcical Shakespearian adaption later this year for a proper run.

“”They are so funny – They’ve had us in stitches in rehearsals”

And with tickets also selling like hot cakes for Creation’s Christmas show The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Creation’s winning streak shows no sign of abating.

The Merry Wives of WhatsApp is written and adapted by Olivia Mace (the mastermind behind Bleak House) and Lizzie Hopley (returning to Creation after nine years having worked with the likes of the RSC, Doctor Who and Call The Midwife, and the pair aim to have you in hysterics.

“They are so funny,” Lucy Askew, Creation’s chief exec and creative producer, promises. “They have had us in stitches in rehearsals. But basically this is about two women Meg and Alice taking revenge through their local WhatsApp group on a lechy man who won’t leave them alone.”

Based on Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor, the hour long adaption, directed by Natasha Rickman, is now a compact, energetic and hilarious live comedy performance accessible through Zoom for three days only.

“It’s faithful to the original Shakespeare yet it feels like real life and is so relatable,” Lucy promises.

As for Creation’s newfound global virtual theatre fame, Lucy would only say: “It’s working for us so we have plans for digital performances to run right into next year. We just want to keep developing live virtual theatre as a new art form because the audiences just love being part of our live performances.”

The Merry Wives of Whats App runs on September 4, 5, 6 September at 7pm. 12+

The Wizard of Oz runs from Dec 19-Jan 3
