Demand is likely to be high for this concert, so it’s advisable to grab tickets while you can! The name that’s on so many lips now in the classical music world, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, makes his Oxford Philharmonic debut playing Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No.1 in A minor. The programme also includes Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dreamand Symphony No.4 in A major, ‘Italian’, and Rossini’s overture for L’Italiana in Algeri.

Rising viola star Timothy Ridout is currently a BBC New Generation Artist and has been a YCAT (Young Classical Artists Trust) artist since 2016. He is joined by prize-winning pianist and former YCAT artist Jonathan Ware in this all-Schumann programme, which includes Märchenbilder (Fairy Tale Pictures)and the song cycle Dichterliebearranged for viola and piano.

The impressive Oxford Bach Soloists continue their journey through the Bach choral repertoire with four cantatas for the 19th, 20th, 21stand 22ndSundays after Trinity. All written in Leipzig in 1723, these cantatas explore the theme of Christmas rejecting materialism to help ensure union with God.

This acclaimed string quartet – founder Nic Fallowfield (violin), Clare Bhabra (violin), Richard Muncey (viola) and Jenny Curtis (cello) – was formed in 2011 and is currently the resident quartet of The Midland Sinfonia based in Worcestershire. In this concert they will be playing Bartok’s String Quartet No.4 preceded by a short illustrated talk, followed by Dvorak’s String Quartet in E flat Op.51.

Two outstanding local musicians – cellist Jacqui Johnson and pianist Anita D’Attellis – come together for this hour-long concert, which includes Saint-Saëns’ brilliantly textured Sonata for cello and piano No. 1 in C minor and Debussy’s exuberant Sonata for cello and piano in D minor.Refreshments are available, and there will be an opportunity to chat to the musicians afterwards.

The OCMS’s 121stseason opens with this internationally renowned string quartet, which was formed in 2002 and has since notched up numerous awards and released several critically acclaimed recordings. Here they perform Beethoven’s Quartet Op.59 No.3 and Tchaikovsky Quartet No.3.
