Aziz Rahman is a man with a plan – even though it has changed continually over the last few weeks, in wake of the pandemic – he is still determined to keep his business going and feed us authentic Indian cuisine.

Having had an aziz delivery last night it was not only a massive treat but delicious, novel and a real feast. Highly recommended

Businesses of all sizes are being increasingly creative and innovative in order to survive – especially those in the food and drink industry – and this is something Aziz knows only too well.

The Aziz Restaurant dominated the Cowley Road for 25 years before moving to Headington, and now more recently to The Iffley Tree Hotel, where things were going swimmingly

But then the coronavirus changed everything. But instead of closing up shop, with his restaurant closed, Aziz is offering a takeaway delivery service instead due to the unprecedented demand.

“We have been inundated with messages and calls asking us to offer a takeaway service again,” he said. “So we have!”

Aziz told us: “I am not a man who can sit still, I have to have plans and creative ideas to keep my business going. All businesses are being affected by the pandemic and we have to find new ways to serve our customers and keep going.”

His solution is a new slimmed down, simple version of his restaurant’s usually extensive menu offering an express service but with authentic, delicious home cooked dishes.

“At this time we need good, home cooked food to keep our spirits high and our new menu will do that. We have included favourite dishes but also meat cooked on the bone which is particularly delicious.”

And we agree! Having had a delivery last night it was not only a massive treat but delicious, novel and a real feast.

Featuring kala beef, Handi mutton with pumpkin, handi chicken with spinach, niramish (mixed veg), sag paneer, chicken tikka, tarka dall , pillao rice & papadums, it was an enormous treat.

Ox In A Box’s Sarah Edwards, said: “It was unanimously declared the best curry we have ever had and we can’t imagine eating one from anywhere other than Aziz now.

“Inspector Morsel was beyond delighted to discover the lamb on the bone dish – a treat and a triumph.
“Vegetarian dishes were fragrant and delicious and the lentil dhal and garlic and peshwari naans were exceptional. The lime pickle was out of this world and the veg curry beautiful with bite, flavour and taste – not a soggy vegetable in sight. The rice was fluffy and delicious. Overall, it was utterly delicious and just what we need to keep our lockdown spirits high.”

So what can we find on the new express menu from the team at Aziz? The menu may be simplified but it is no way any easier to choose from, with a choice of five starters such as tandoori chicken and vegan samosas. The five grill options includes tandoori salmon and king prawns, and the house specialities offer a beef shatkora.

Vegetarians need not fear as there are seven options to select from including saag paneer and niramish but the dishes Aziz Rahman is particularly proud of are the traditional home style ‘handi’ dishes.

Aziz said: “These are authentic dishes and we are excited to be able to offer these to our customers and confident they will love them.

“It is so important that everyone takes the government’s advice to stay at home, stay safe and look after themselves and their families, and by offering a delivery service we are doing our best to help.”

The new Aziz #StayAtHome Express Menu is available from Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to 9pm.
