CARDUCCI PIANO TRIO
Holywell Music Room
Sunday, 11.15am
Tickets: 01865 305305 or www.ticketsoxford.com
Half of the Carducci String Quartet – Matthew Denton (violin) and Emma Denton (cello) – team up with award-winning pianist Clare Hammond, whose career has taken her onto the silver screen – she featured as young piano prodigy Margaret Fairchild in the 2015 film adaptation of Alan Bennett’s The Lady in the Van.
There’s an exotic feel to this hour-long programme, which features Haydn’s Piano Trio No.39 in G major, nicknamed the ‘Gypsy’ because of its Hungarian-style Rondo in the final movement, and the tango-style Primavera Porteñafrom Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) by Argentinian composer Piazzolla. Sandwiched in between, for contrast, is one of Mendelssohn’s most popular chamber works, the Piano Trio No.1 in D minor Op.49.
