I’m watching the infamous clip of comedian Laura Lexx finishing off a sexist haggler at a gig in Brighton, to get a handle on the brilliant comic at work.

Saccharine sweet, she never loses her rag during the confrontation, which understandably went viral, instead using her innate, quick witted and damning ripostes to put said heckler firmly and irrevocably in his place, and carrying on with her show regardless.

Best known perhaps for her comic obsession with Liverpool F.C. manager Jurgen Klopp (google it) which amassed over 5.6 million views on Twitter and landed her a book deal into the bargain, Laura Lexx is certainly enjoying her moment in the limelight.

If you’ve been privy to her live shows, you’ll know she also enjoys having a laugh around society’s big issues: social media, mental health, climate change and conceiving…which is no doubt why The Old Fire Station is so keen to broadcast her new show live and online on January 27.

Following a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe which earned her a prestigious Comedian’s Choice Award for the second year in a row, Laura’s show Knee Jerk is couldn’t come at a better time.

“Knee Jerk shines a light on how hard it is to be a good person these days. The world seems furious at the moment, whether that is over Brexit, carbon emissions, gender, plastics in the sea, nationality or whether or not we should be aiming for the future or the past,” the Old Fire Station tells us.

“Maybe Laura is projecting, but is all this arguing and fighting down to the fact we’re absolutely terrified? In Knee Jerk, Laura uses the tricks she learned to cope with her eco-anxiety to try and soothe the world’s temper and calm down our various phobias.”

Either way, as Laura heads off on her virtual UK Tour, taking the very best of her past Edinburgh Festival shows around the country to finally show them off, you can thankfully join her.
