That’s right folks. You read it correctly the first time. Mikron Theatre is not only bringing two new plays to Oxfordshire throughout August, but one lucky audience gets to see them stark naked.

So unique is the concept that this British Naturism event is the first professional theatre performance for a naturist audience, ever, in the UK.

Mikron Theatre is keen to stress that they will be performing with their clothes on at the event at Toad Gin Distillery – British Naturism Event in South Park.

But what can the naturists expect?

First up is Redcoats, Delighting audiences with seaside tales and holiday camp magic, Mikron are touring  to the British public.

Written by Nick Ahad, he was the perfect man for the job having spent his childhood summer holidays at Butlins in Skegness: I bet lots of people have happy memories of Butlins. I bet none of them have memories of going to the same Butlins (Skegness) 14 years in a row. I do – and not once did I mind.

What sums up Butlins up for me? We were a mixed-race working-class family from Keighley and when I went to Butlins in Skegness, I felt like the richest person in the world.

“Loved it, in fact. Some of my happiest memories were created in that seaside haven in the eighties and early nineties. So what a delight it’s been to revisit those memories while writing Redcoats.

So enjoy Mikron’s radiant redcoats as they guide you through 80 years of the Billy Butlin’s holiday dream.

Mikron’s Artistic Director, Marianne McNamara, who commissioned Nick to write Redcoats said: “This play is great fun, and that’s what Redcoats were there to do – encourage fun. It’s been a joy to research this play. Billy Butlin was such an ambitious fellow and he made holidays possible for so many. British holidays where you could shelter from the rain, swim, laugh and relax, perfect”

Join Mikron as they delve into holiday huts and bonny baby contests with guest appearances from Marlene Dietrich, Gracie Fields and Laurel and Hardy. Watch Mikron celebrate Butlins splendour with their trademark mix of fun, pathos and songs.

This fun, end of the pier musical adventure will be performed at the naturist event, being held at the Toad Gin Distillery in Oxford on Friday August 9.

Mikron’s other brand-new show All Hands on Deck – is set in World War Two, and navigates a love story between the Royal Navy and their loyal ‘Jenny Wrens’.

All Hands On Deck

It features new WRNS recruits Ginger and Lily who are looking for wartime adventure. Lily wants to serve on dry land, but Ginger is desperate to serve at sea – and the sailors can’t believe their luck!

Paying tribute to all those wartime women who pushed the door to opportunity firmly open, they soon find themselves in uncharted waters on a journey they’ll never forget.

Marianne McNamara, explains why the Wrens show means so much: “I’ve always been interested in the Wrens and while there are plenty of plays about the war, not that many explore women’s contributions, so it’s been fascinating to research their story and to celebrate their endeavours.

This is Mikron Theatre Company’s 48th tour, travelling here by inland waterways on thevintage narrowboat Tyseley, to play to approximately 130 venues.
