Creation's Wind In The Willows

Creation is pulling out all the stops this summer to bring you a fun, interactive, outdoor, family-friendly version of Wind In The Willows as you’ve never seen it before.

The open air, immersive, version of Kenneth Grahame’s classic riverside children’s story is being sprinkled with some Creation magic and performed around Sunnymead Meadow near Cutteslowe Community Centre.

All you have to do is book, turn up and get swept up in the fun and frivolities as you meet Mole, Rat, Toad, Badger, and some dodgy weasels, while enjoying numerous activities along the way.

“it will just be lovely to be performing in front of a live audience again”

In small groups you’ll journey along the river bank, the wild wood, and maybe even get a glimpse of Toad Hall, as the famous story is re-enacted.

Groups consist of a maximum of 15, with 3 bubbles of up to 5 people in each, and with only a two week run planned, you’d better get in quick!

“We were determined to bring Oxford a live family-friendly summer show this year,” Creation’s CEO Lucy Askew tells me, “but finding the right venue has been really hard because of Covid and all the associated restrictions. So when we came across Sunnymead Meadow, right by Cutteslowe Lake, we began thinking about doing things a bit differently.

Creation’s Wind In The Willows

“It’s a really beautiful spot and we knew Wind In The Willows could work as well as an adventure as a sit down stage production. And once we’d made that decision we knew we could have a lot of fun with it while keeping families safe and in their bubbles,” Lucy says.

“So while the weather is nice, it’s a great way to get children away from their screens and enjoy some outdoor space. But for us it will just be lovely performing in front of a live audience again.”

Directed by Oxford’s Helen Eastman, you can also enjoy her interactive Bicycle Boy show in the same meadow.

And whilst you’re at in, take note that Creation will be performing Pinocchio this Christmas at the North Wall.

Wind In The Willows is at Sunnymead Meadow, Oxford from 24 July – 8 August. Tickets are extremely limited as audience sizes are restricted so advance booking is essential. https://www.creationtheatre.co.uk/whats-on/willows/
