The Estrella Damm” Top 50 Gastropub Awards were announced last night and two of Oxfordshire’s five entries were in Kingham near Chipping Norton.
Hopping seven places in the 2021 list to number 34, the Wild Rabbit in Kingham, owned by Lady Bamford, who also runs Daylesford up the road, boasts head Chef Nathan Eades, who joined the team in December 2017, and whose cooking has been turning heads ever since.
Then at number 68 comes The Kingham Plough which was taken over by Matt and Katie Beamish from chef patron and Great British Menu winner Emily Watkins. Head chef Jonny Pons has put the Kingham pub firmly back on the map with his modern British dishes with Mediterranean influences.
And yes, for the eagle-eyed, 68 is more than 50, but for the first time ever the “Estrella Damm” Top 50 Gastropub Awards have done things differently to support the hospitality industry by listing 100 of the UK’s best to support the industry through the pandemic.
Joining the Oxfordshire contingent comes The Magdalen Arms in East Oxford at 72, The Michelin starred Nut Tree in Murcott at number 69 and The Bell at Langford at 94.
