Jenny Saville (b.1970), One Out of Two (Symposium), 2016 Edition: 2/25AP, Digital print on Somerset watercolour paper, 42 x 59.4cm © Jenny Saville

Famous Oxford based painter Jenny Saville’s limited edition digital print One out of Two (Symposium), originally produced for the National Galleries of Scotland, is part of a virtual silent auction which closes at 5pm on Saturday 2 May to raise money for the NHS.

Jenny is one of 130 local artists taking part in Art From The Heart, organised by Zuleika Gallery, to raise money for the NHS and support Oxfordshire’s artists, which runs until May 9.

“I’m delighted to be involved in this hugely worthwhile project. It’s not only providing much needed support for our NHS, but is helping artists to keep working during these challenging times… Art matters.” Janina Ramirez

Jenny has generously offered to donate 100% of proceeds from the sale of her work to the NHS: I am honoured and excited to be part of a fundraiser with fellow artists working in Oxfordshire to support this charity event. We hope to raise much needed funds to support our local hospitals who are doing incredible work for us all. Good luck to everyone involved,” she says.

To make a bid, please email Lizzie Collins at lizzie@zuleikagallery.com. The winning bid will be announced on Sunday 3 May.

The online charity exhibition, in support of the Oxford Hospitals Charity, has already exceeded its target of £2,500 and the rest of the proceeds have gone directly to the artists to support them at this difficult time.

Elaine Kazimirczuk, Black Swan Irises at the Oxford Botanic Gardens, 2019, oil and acrylic on canvas, 100 x 100 cm.

With close to 100 of the county’s talented painters, sculptors, ceramicists and printmakers exhibiting, the curators Lizzie Collins, Amanda Jewell and Hannah Payne hope that the final sum raised will double their target once sales are completed on May 9. The exhibition can be viewed and purchases made at https://zuleikagallery.com/nhs/

The organisers have also asked Ruth Charity, Arts Coordinator at the Oxford Hospitals Charity, to choose an art work from the exhibition for the Oxford Hospitals.

Visitors to https://zuleikagallery.com/nhs/ will have the opportunity to Crowdfund its purchase for the Artlink arts and music programme, funded by Oxford Hospitals Charity, which aims to transform, enhance and enrich hospital environments across the Oxford University Hospitals Trust.

Dianne Frank, Sicilian Lemons, 2018, coloured pencil on paper, 61 x 70.5 cm framed.

It is hoped that supporters who aren’t able to buy something from the exhibition might make a contribution to the NHS and Oxfordshire artists and the Artlink programme.

Zuleika Gallery is also very excited to announce that Janina Ramirez, Woodstock based British art and cultural historian, and TV presenter, has agreed to judge ‘Best Entry’ to the exhibition and ‘Highly Commended’ category for the runner up.

She says: “I’m delighted to be involved in this hugely worthwhile project. It’s not only providing much needed support for our NHS, but is also helping artists to keep working during these challenging times.

“We may think of art as a luxury, but lockdown is showing us that it is more needed now than ever before. Art allows us space to explore, contemplate and think, all through looking. While our museums and galleries are closed, investing in some art for ourselves can be a way to stay creative and engaged with the world from our homes. Art matters.”
