The Bicycle Shed in Summertown is being closed permanently by its owners The City Pub Group.

In a social media post today it announced: “As one of The City Pub Company’s smaller sites, they have decided the shed isn’t big enough and is too costly to sustain in the current climate and they’re closing us permanently.

“It’s devastating for the team here who have worked so incredibly hard to make the shed a Summertown favourite and it’s been such a fun place to work.

The post continued: “Everyday we met such lovely people and we’ll miss every one of you. Thank you for all the great memories.”

The post went on to say that City Pub Company has “this week decided to lay off 50% of their workforce.”

The Bicycle Shed is one of our favourite pub/restaurants in Oxfordshire. Recently opened, it combined amazing food in its restaurant, a bustling bar and a beer garden outside, all wrapped up in a community focused hub. It was a real attribute for Summertown, enormously popular, and a finalist in the Ox In A Box Food Awards just a few months ago.

We are horrified to hear about its closure and will be interviewing manager Rob later today.

A City Pub Company spokesperson said: “Sadly the Bicycle Shed has not performed as we would have it wished it to, and therefore we have closed it and are seeking a new owner.”
