Enjoy a big FREE weekend of fun, drop-in activities for all the family! Yes, The Ashmolean’s BIG FAMILY WEEKEND is heading this way with a packed schedule of free interactive experiences across July 16 – 17.

The Big Family Weekend offers something for everyone. Visitors can ‘strike’ a coin in metal, plaster or even chocolate; dress up as a living painting; curate an instant exhibition; settle down to some story-telling of fables, myths and legends, or pick up a trail and meet a ‘real-life’ Ashmolean artist wandering the museum.

The galleries will be busy all weekend with family-oriented, hands-on workshops alongside demonstrations, music and theatre performances.

Saturday’s drop-in events are dedicated to Archaeology: Travel back to the Iron Age in this celebration of the world of the Iceni, an Iron Age community that inhabited present day East Anglia. Enjoy object handling, make a plaster coin to take away, or a chocolate one to eat. Have a go at coin striking and gather round for storytelling with Dave Tong, the Yarnsmith of Norwich.
