Owain Llwyd Jones and his team at The Plough in West Hanney are raising our spirits and our temperatures, as they launch their first ever naked calendar for Sobell House Hospice.

And with only 500 calendars for sale, as of tomorrow morning (Dec 1) there’s going to be a stampede to get your hands on one.

From the kitchen porters to the waitresses, the suppliers to the locals, so many people volunteered to star in the calendar that it was difficult to fit them all in.

“It was amazing was how many people volunteered to be in it. Everyone was so keen to be involved, and lots of our regulars and locals signed up immediately because they have lost loved ones and know Sobell House for its amazing services and care,” Owain says.

Photographer Paul Gregory was brought it to take the tasteful pics, and the results can’t help but raise a smile!

“We had one picture taken outside so had to time it quite carefully so we didn’t get arrested,” Owain laughs “but it’s been so much fun and we really hope the calendar will raise lots of money for Sobell House because it’s such an amazing charity.”

So what brought this about then? “We had just done the Sobell House Cookbook and Lucas (fellow landlord and head chef) suggested it. We’d had a few drinks and by the time he’d surfaced the next day, we had already contacted Sobell House and they’d given us the thumbs up,” Owain laughed.

So where did Owain start? “We wanted to do it right so we created a mood board with lots of different scenarios – from the kitchen porters being covered in soap suds to the locals reading papers by the fire, and the waitresses behind the bar, it’s all been lush,” Owain says.

An considering Owain and Luke only took over the community pub in May this year read about it here they have already made quite an impression read our review here, but a naked calendar is a whole new ball game!
