The Medley's new pizzas

The buzz around The Medley is building once again as Oxford’s newest riverside bar has reopened for its summer season, with the added addition of a new pizza kitchen to keep its punters and regulars well fed this season.

The new pizza oven stands in pride of place, having been built by The Medley’s founders, Oxford lads Charlie Gee and Otto Figueiredo, over the winter.

Already enjoying a busy summer season, the boys are expecting another packed few months, as their loyal followers return in their droves.

Having opened in lockdown 2021, The Medley was an immediate hit due to its riverside location in Binsey, and laidback vibe, perfect for walkers, cyclists, boaters and anyone who fancied a riverside stroll stroll.

Situated on Medley Manor Farm in Binsey, it can be accessed by foot or bike from Oxford, Wolvercote and Jericho along the Thames on what was a disused part of the farm.

Having introduced alternating food pop-ups last year to feed their hungry customers, the boys decided to introduce something more permanent in terms of The Medley’s culinary food offering.

Since then Otto and Charlie have been perfecting their craft, Charlie learning the pizza ropes at The Rusty Bicycle in Cowley, while Otto set to work building the pizza oven and new kitchen to cope with the busy summer trade.

Experimenting with flavours, the duo wanted to offer something a bit different, and their new menu is already massively popular, offering seasonal and novel flavour combinations from the Medley (£9) (tomato, basil, mozzarella, asparagus from the farm, pickled red onions and yellow tomatoes) or the Forager (basil, mozzarella, wild garlic, wild mushrooms, pinenuts and olive oil) and some mighty fine sounding garlic bread.

“It’s a bit nerve-wracking getting back into the swing of things, but we have been working really hard over the winter to make sure we are ready for the summer, and had a good look at what else we could offer,” Otto explains.

“Pizza is a real crowd-pleaser, but we wanted to make sure we offered the real deal and are pleased with what we have created here,” Otto says. “Our pizzas are really tasty and it’s good to be able to offer something new and a bit different this year to keep people coming back for more.”

They will continue using local suppliers including fruit and veg from Pickle and Lime on Botley Road to wine from Grape Minds and beer by Tap Social.

Having closed at the end of September 2021, the open air bar then had a two week pop up over Christmas, which was also hugely popular.

“We were really surprised but we now have so many regulars who all came by for some mulled wine around the fire pits and it went really well,” Otto adds.

And what of The Medley’s instant success? “We didn’t know what to expect, but it’s gone much better than expected, so we were really pleased with the reception we received. We have regulars now and the excitement is already building for the new season,” Otto says.

“The Medley has proved to be a really nice middle ground for those wanting somewhere relaxed, picturesque and less pressurised than Oxfordshire’s more upmarket pubs, so yes come down this summer and see for yourselves.”

The Medley is now open until the end of September. Kitchen is open 12-9 everyday!
