Hannah French by Christina of Raphaelle Photography

Find out more about Bach, his music, his likes, loves and passions by joining BBC Radio 3 presenter/musician Hannah French and wine historian Ron Merlino on Thursday night.

Celebrate the famous composer’s music and his passion for wine and sample four specially chosen wines while enjoying excerpts from some of Bach’s best-loved compositions.

Hear about Bach’s life at home with wife Anna Magdalena, the coffee houses he frequented with Christian Friedrich Henrici (aka the librettist Picander), and his infamous visit to the Court of King Frederick the Great in Potsdam.

Drinking With Bach is presented by Oxford Festival of the Arts and sponsored by Savills, specially prepared wine taster packs have been commissioned to accompany the programme.

Produced and distributed by The Oxford Wine Company, the packs comprise one Pinot Noir and three Rieslings that will be tasted and discussed by the presenters during the show.

Ron Merlino will be one of your hosts

Viewers are invited to purchase the packs to enjoy the full experience of the programme and join in with their thoughts about the wines during the tastings: https://www.oxfordwine.co.uk/products/drinking-with-bach-music-and-wine-tasting

While sampling the four wines, the presenters will explore what it is we really taste in a fine wine, or hear in the music of Bach. This event throws light on the alchemy of winemaking and musical counterpoint; the big questions of taste – both now and then; and the culture of drinking in the 18th century.

The event starts at 7.30pm this Thursday June 10 and the link to bookmark in your browser to watch the event and join in the discussion is https://vimeo.com/event/967024
