It's going to be an OSJ Christmas

Tis the season to be jolly so join the Orchestra of St John for an incredible array of festive concerts from carols to celebrity fundraising and even a New Year’s Eve concert to enjoy.

From Handel’s Messiah to A Night of Carols, performed in Dorchester Abbey and SJE ARTS, to a Celebrity Carol Concert for Dyslexia and New Year’s Eve celebrations, don’t miss out!

  1. The excitement kicks off this Sunday with Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto this Saturday (Nov 26) at Dorchester Abbey. Virtuoso violinist Jan Schmolck performs this thrilling, emotional piece, accompanied by Mendelssohn’s symphonic poem, the Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave), and his Symphony No. 5 ‘Italian’. 2) A Night of Carols Saturday 10 December, Dorchester Abbey and Sunday 11 December, SJE Arts. Ding, dong, merrily on high! OSJ Voices will raise the roof in this festive evening of wide-ranging music celebrating Christmas. Join OSJ Voices and baritone George Robarts for a night of Christmas favourites sure to spark seasonal joy through a range of great music and composers, including Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols. 3) Handel’s MessiahFriday 16 December, Dorchester Abbey and Sunday 18 December,  St John the Evangelist. Enjoy Handel’s most popular Christmas classic. 4) Celebrity Carol Concert for Dyslexia, Saturday 17 December, 8pm at Christ Church Cathedral. A magical, candle-lit evening of well-loved Christmas carols and seasonal music in the splendour of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. The stars of the evening include the Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, Radiohead’s Philip Selway and actress Sinéad Cusack, who will be reciting some favourite Christmas pieces. 5) New Year’s Eve ConcertFriday 31 December at Dorchester Abbey. See in the New Year with a selection of joyful overtures and dances. From all-time favourites like Strauss’ Blue Danube to jazzy Gershwin’s I got Rhythm, you’ll be whistling these tunes into 2023!
